Fall has come to San Diego. Change is in the air – I love it!
Change has also come to my musical world – a Fall-season of sorts, old things falling away, blowing around in the wind, landing somewhere down the road, so that something new can push forward.
That something new is this new album. The seeds for this record lay in the ground for quite a long time – longer than I expected, kept underground so that the songs might mature, the form they would take be sturdy and strong in order to stand ready and steady in this world they’ve recently entered into. I could go on and on about the seasons of the heart that went into this album – experiencing new life in the form of my 2 kids, going through a very dark and painful season with my family and my brother’s passing last summer; from rejoicing in life, to mourning loss. From the people who have heard the album, I’ve gotten this comment most: “Wow, Mike, I can really feel the emotion in this album.” True, I left it all in there.
Then there’s the newness of the band, especially for the upcoming Album Release Concert on November 7th. The amazing Sim Ziff and Sam Johnson are still my backbone on drums and bass, but we’ll be beefing up the sound to match what’s happening in the album with the talents of some incredible musicians: Mr. Collin Elliott will be rockin’ guitar (Collin is a fantastic singer/songwriter in his own right, and I’m sure you’ll be attending one of his CD release shows sometime in the future – you’re gonna love him!); Daniel K. Mandelman will be on keys (Daniel ROCKED the album, and added so much in crafting the sound on there); Alicia Previn on Violin (you’ll love her!!!); plus some other friends droppin’ by to do some singin’ and bangin’ around. I sure hope you can come!

A different sort of CD Release Concert
In the past, I’ve released my albums in a club, but this time, since the album is really about family, sticking together through good times and bad, living life in the open, and taking it easy, I wanted to put on a show that was open to all-ages, family friendly, and out in the open overlooking the Pacific. So I chose the Crossings at Carlsbad – not really a music venue at all – but we’ll be transforming the ‘wedding green’ into the TiernanTunes Green Scene.
Tickets: You can pre-order your tickets on the site, or you can purchase at the door. Pre-ordering gets you guaranteed seating and a free download of the album, and will help us plan the show. But no worries, walk-ups are welcome as well! Admission is $10 for adults, $5 students (13-21), and free for kids 12 and below. So bring your favorite beach chair or blankey:) O, and don’t worry – the bar will be a’-flowin’….
